DR. W. Y. FULLERTON

A Man of Many Parts

DR. W. Y. FULLERTON, friend and biographer of C. H. SPURGEON, Colleague with MANTON SMITH in many Evangelistic Tours, Keswick Conference speaker, Secretary of the Baptist Missionary Society, Lecturer, Author, etc., was converted when 13 years of age. Describing this happy event, he said: “It was one Sunday afternoon when Mr. Williamson was giving an address to the Sunday School. He said many things, no doubt; but I can remember only one sentence, and that was the living word for me: ‘All you have to do to be saved is to take God’s gift, and say, “Thank You.”‘ Here was a new and a great light. Hitherto I had been trying to get God to take my gift, and trying to make it great enough to be worthy of His acceptance; and, lo! it was I who had to take, and it was His to give. Simply and quietly that Sunday afternoon my heart turned to God, and I took the gift, for which I have been trying to say ‘Thank You’ ever since.”

At another time Dr. Fullerton put it this way: “On the 18th of July, 1870, the Pope declared himself infallible. On the 19th of July, 1870, France went to war with Germany. On the 20th of July, 1870, I rested on the infallible Word of God, and entered into eternal peace. Of these three events the third to me was the greatest.”

He was suddenly called Home in 1932.
