Why should I be saved?

Salvation is all necessary – everybody needs to be saved, including you. Many years ago, while still a child in Sunday school I asked myself why it was necessary for me to be saved. The answer did not come quickly; it took me many years of reading the Bible to understand why it is necessary to be saved. You, like everyone else, need to be saved too and this is why:

All have sinned, including you. You have sinned – lying, fornicating, theft, lasciviousness, murdering, bullying, bearing false witness, lusting, alcoholism, drug abuse, provocative dressing, watching pornography, etc. The Bible says:

As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; –Romans 3:10

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, –Romans 3:23

For there is not a just man on earth who does good and does not sin. – Ecclesiastes 7:20

They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one. – Psalm 14:3

Every one of them has turned aside; They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one. – Psalm 53:3

Your sins will bring everlasting adverse consequences on you. Just as we have prisons to confine and punish criminals, offenders, and lawless people, be sure that there is also an eternal realm of punishment for all those who have sinned and disobeyed God. In short, you will not get away with your sins. The Bible says:

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, – Romans 1:18

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. – Ephesians 5:6

5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.  – Colossians 3:5-6

Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and that day that is coming will set them on fire,” says the Lord Almighty. “Not a root or a branch will be left to them. – Malachi 4:1

21 Be sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free. – Proverbs 11:21

40 As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. – Matthew 13:40-42

The fearful, unbelieving, the abominable, murderers, immoral persons, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Revelation 21:8

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:23

However, God loves you so much that He would not just look on while you self-destruct. He would go to any extent to save you; that is, to save you from your sins, and to save you from the devil who aids you to sin and to save you from the penalties of your sins which are death and hell. To demonstrate how much He loves you, He sent His Son Jesus Christ to suffer and die to pay the penalties of your sins. The Bible says:

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:8

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16-17

Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. And God showed his love for us by sending his only Son into the world, so that we might have life through him. This is what love is: it is not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the means by which our sins are forgiven. – 1 John 4:8-10

But God’s mercy is so abundant, and his love for us is so great, that while we were spiritually dead in our disobedience he brought us to life with Christ. It is by God’s grace that you have been saved. In our union with Christ Jesus he raised us up with him to rule with him in the heavenly world. He did this to demonstrate for all time to come the extraordinary greatness of his grace in the love he showed us in Christ Jesus. –Ephesians 2:4-7.

Indeed, the Son of God, Jesus Christ, has come to suffer and die for your sins on the cross and has resurrected for your salvation. Now it has been given to you that if you have faith in Jesus Christ you shall be saved. The Bible says:

Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. – John 3:18

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him. – John 3:36

9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. – Romans 10:9-10

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16.

Truly, you need to be saved – you need to be saved from your sins and the punishment thereof. Lay hold of your salvation now; there is no time to waste; now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation. If you have realized the need to be saved, say this prayer –

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I, your name, on this day, accept You as my Lord and Savior. I believe You died for my sins on the cross and resurrected on the third day. I am willing to follow and obey You as my Lord and Savior. Amen.  See Romans 10: 9-10

NB: What to do after accepting Jesus Christ?
