There was a certain rich wealthy affluent man, which was clothed in luxurious purple fine and fine linen, and fared luxuriously sumptuously lavishly every day: And there was a certain beggar poor needy named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores wounds blisters , And desiring to be fed with the scraps crumbs leftovers which fell from the rich man's dinner feast table : moreover the creatures dogs animals came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the needy beggar poor man died, and was carried by the messengers angels servants into Abraham's embrace bosom care : the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell the underworld Hades he lift up his eyes, being in torments agony suffering , and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have compassion pity mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger fingertip hand in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this heat flame fire . But Abraham said, Heir Child Son , remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy rich pleasant good things, and likewise Lazarus bad evil hard things: but now he is consoled comforted at rest , and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gap gulf chasm fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my family's father's household's house: For I have five brothers brethren relatives ; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of agony suffering torment . Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the messengers teachers prophets ; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will change turn repent . And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced persuaded changed , though one rose from the dead.
