There was a certain rich affluent wealthy man, which was clothed in purple luxurious fine and fine linen, and fared luxuriously lavishly sumptuously every day: And there was a certain needy beggar poor named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores blisters wounds , And desiring to be fed with the crumbs leftovers scraps which fell from the rich man's dinner table feast : moreover the dogs creatures animals came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the needy beggar poor man died, and was carried by the messengers angels servants into Abraham's embrace bosom care : the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell the underworld Hades he lift up his eyes, being in torments suffering agony , and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy pity compassion on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his hand finger fingertip in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this heat flame fire . But Abraham said, Child Son Heir , remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy rich good pleasant things, and likewise Lazarus evil bad hard things: but now he is comforted consoled at rest , and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gap gulf chasm fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my family's father's household's house: For I have five brothers relatives brethren ; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of agony suffering torment . Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the teachers messengers prophets ; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent change turn . And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced persuaded changed , though one rose from the dead.
