Commentary

Ver. 6. did evil in the sight of the LORD is an expression used to describe the deeds of almost all the idolatrous kings of Israel and Judah. King Solomon, though started well with the fear of God, slipped into idolatry under the influence of his wives. King Solomon did not completely abandon the Lord; however, he practiced polytheism where he worshiped the living God of Israel and other gods – gods of the pagan people around them.

went not fully after the LORD: Unlike David, King Solomon did not worship God wholly and solely, but joined idols with him.
